European Energy has put the Kvosted solar and battery park in Viborg Municipality into operation by the New Year. With a total storage capacity of 200 MWh, the battery plant will be the largest in Northern Europe in terms of energy storage capacity, and it will contribute to storing solar energy and stabilizing the electricity grid. This is stated by European Energy in a press release.
The battery park is integrated into the Kvosted solar park (101 MW), which has been in operation since 2022. The battery system enables the storage of locally produced electricity, which can be used when solar production is low. The total capacity corresponds to the average daily electricity consumption of around 18,000 households. The project, which was completed in seven months, is now in the test phase, where the systems are being prepared for full operation.
- In the future, batteries will have a significant role in our project portfolio. Kvosted solar and battery park is a project that shows that the rollout of battery systems is now really taking off, says Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development at European Energy.
European Energy expects to install over 1 GW of battery capacity across its European markets by 2027. The official inauguration of the facility will take place on February 2, 2026, with the participation of Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard and the Mayor of Viborg, Katrine Fusager Rohde.
