The electricity company N1, which supplies 800,000 homes and businesses with electricity, is lowering its so-called grid tariffs in December. The company announced this in a press release.

This is because it has been charged 50 million kroner too much, which must now be paid back. Grid tariffs are the price you pay to have your electricity transported through the grid and into the socket. It is part of the total electricity price, which also includes, for example, the pure electricity price, taxes and VAT.

- As an electricity network company, we have clear limits on how much we can charge our customers to finance the operation and investments in the electricity network, says Lise Bering, CEO of Elnetselskabet N1.

- Although this year we have marginally exceeded our revenue limit of almost 2.3 billion kroner, the money must of course be returned to our customers, and that is why we are lowering the tariffs slightly in December.

The refund corresponds to a saving of approximately 38 kroner for a typical household. However, consumers should be prepared for the grid tariffs to be raised slightly next year. This is because consumption is continuously increasing.

Therefore, investments must also be monitored, Lise Bering continues.

- We are seriously starting to see that more parts of society are replacing fossil fuels with electric-powered alternatives - perhaps best illustrated by the rapidly increasing number of electric cars on Danish roads.

- This also means that electricity consumption is increasing significantly, and we expect to have to invest a record amount of two billion in expanding and future-proofing the Danish electricity grid in 2026, says Lise Bering.
