In 2022, Cowi launched a strategy that involved an immediate stop to participation in new fossil projects and a goal to, within a few years, exclusively deal with tasks that drive the world in a more sustainable direction.

To accelerate this transformation of the organization in Denmark, the consulting company has brought in Gitte Gylling Hammershøj Olesen to a newly created position as director with responsibility for sustainability efforts across all Danish business areas.

The new director will be tasked with standardizing the approach to sustainability, whether Cowi solves tasks for the industry or advises on large infrastructure projects. "With the new organization, sustainability must permeate the entire business," the company states in a press release.

- Sustainability has become a basic requirement in all solutions that our customers demand, and only by building a robust organization around it can we ensure that we continue to offer the market's most integrated sustainability consulting in the future. I am very much looking forward to taking on this work, says the incoming CEO.

Gitte Gylling Hammershøj Olesen was found internally at Cowi. She joined the company in January 2022 as Market Director for Sustainability and Green Transition in the Construction and Industry Division. Before that, she had built up solid experience as a sustainability consultant and chief specialist for more than 15 years in total within sustainable construction in the consulting industry.

- I am very excited that Gitte has agreed to take on the role of Sustainability Director. We had several highly qualified candidates for the position, but with her background and extensive experience as well as her wide-ranging internal and external network, Gitte distinguished herself from the field as the right person to run and develop our sustainability organization going forward,« says Henrik Winther, CEO of Cowi Denmark.

Gitte Gylling Hammershøj Olesen has taken up her new position today.
