Two researchers from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) have been selected as lead authors for the next report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC. DTU announced this in a press release.

Professor Marie Münster will be the lead author of a chapter on greenhouse gas reduction. The chapter describes how different energy sectors and systems can be integrated and function in interaction. Postdoc Shreya Some will be the lead author of a chapter on technical guidelines for assessing climate change. According to DTU, it is a "crucial" chapter, as it will provide a new framework for assessing the impact of climate change and solutions.

- Research into technologies and efforts that can prevent further climate change is an agenda at the entire DTU, and I am proud that two of our researchers, due to their knowledge and excellent research, are being appointed to contribute to the UN Climate Panel, says DTU Vice-Dean Christine Nellemann in the press release.

The report is expected to be published in 2029. According to DTU, it will cover three main areas: "Climate Change: The Physical Basis", "Consequences and Adaptation" and "Limiting Greenhouse Gases".

The IPCC has selected a total of 664 experts from 111 different countries to participate in the next major report. It will be the seventh in a row. They were selected from a pool of 8,771 nominees.

The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, was founded in 1988. It has 195 member countries. It is intended to provide politicians with knowledge about climate, risk and solutions. It shows what scientists agree on and where knowledge is lacking. The reports are used in the UN's climate negotiations.

DTU's research has previously contributed to IPCC reports. The most recent was in 2023, when Professor of Climate and Economics at DTU Kirsten Halsnæs was the lead author of a report on reducing greenhouse gases.
