It has been 16 months since two ministers and the mayor of Lemvig Municipality inaugurated a green ammonia factory near the village of Ramme. A plant that at the time had cost approximately a quarter of a billion kroner, whether the price has increased since the inauguration is unknown. But shortly before Christmas, the plant finally went into operation, and the first tanker truck with green ammonia has left the factory. This is reported by DR.

The plant, which is the world's first green ammonia plant, will produce ammonia with energy from six wind turbines and 50 MW of solar cells. It is built as a so-called dynamic PtX plant, where production is adjusted to the amount of renewable energy. Skovgaard Energy owns the plant, which was developed in partnership with Vestas and Topsoe.

- We are incredibly proud of this groundbreaking project in Northwest Jutland, which drives innovation, growth and job creation locally. It demonstrates the energy systems of the future, says Niels Erik Madsen, CEO of Skovgaard Energy in a press release and continues:

- The plant in Ramme is more than a technological breakthrough - it is a strategic step towards a stronger and more self-sufficient Europe. With the production of green ammonia based on renewable energy, we show how Denmark can lead the green transition and at the same time support the EU's ambition for energy independence.

According to the company, the plant can produce up to 5,000 tons of green ammonia per year, but it is expected to take five to six months before the capacity is fully utilized. The ammonia is sold at market price, while the production price is not expected to be known for about a year.

The plant has received 81 million DKK in support from EUDP. Skovgaard Energy has also applied for permission to expand the plant for the purpose of testing and developing engines that can run on green ammonia, but the project still requires regulatory approvals.
