The Danish C25 company Novonesis, which is the result of a merger between Novozymes and Chr. Hansen, will no longer do business in Russia. The biotech company tells Finans that it has no further comments on the decision.
Novonesis has been in a dilemma regarding its business in Russia in recent months. While Novozymes had pulled the plug on its Russian activities before the merger, Chr. Hansen remained active in the country.
It was therefore up to CEO Ester Baiget to set the future, common line, and she has now come to the conclusion that Novonesis should no longer be present in Russia.
It is not known what will happen to Novonesis' Russian activities and whether a buyer has been found for them. It is also unknown how much lost revenue this will entail.
Chr. However, before the merger, Hansen announced that the profits from the Russian business would in any case be donated to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
Novonesis produces enzymes and microorganisms for use in a wide range of industries, including the food industry. The merger between the two companies was completed at the beginning of the year. The Novo Nordisk Foundation owns 29 percent of the share capital in Novonesis, but holds 74 percent of the votes.
