Google has agreed with CIP's Energy Transition Fund I on a power purchase agreement (PPA) to purchase electricity in the Netherlands. With the signing of the agreement, Google will purchase 250 MW of wind energy from the Zeevonk project for its Dutch operations over the next 15 years, CIP said in a press release.

Zeevonk, a joint venture between Vattenfall and CIP, combines offshore wind, solar energy and green hydrogen on a large scale. The project includes a two GW offshore wind farm and a 50 MW floating solar farm located 62 km off the Dutch coast. The project is expected to be operational in 2029. A significant part of the electricity generated is planned to be converted into green hydrogen via a large electrolysis plant in the Port of Rotterdam.

 - We are very pleased to enter into this partnership with Google and support their goal of reducing CO? emissions through this long-term renewable energy purchase agreement. This represents an important milestone for CIP and underlines the many opportunities in the combination of offshore wind, Power-to-X and the growing demand for renewable energy from data centers. We look forward to developing Zeevonk together with our partners at Vattenfall, says Felix Pahl, Partner at CIP.

Google is also pleased with the agreement, which the company sees as an important step towards its ambition to become CO2-neutral at all its locations by 2030.

- Google collaborated with CIP before the government tender for this subsidy-free gigawatt-scale project. We are proud of the result and the close collaboration with CIP. Zeevonk is designed with system integration in mind and combines offshore wind, liquid solar and green hydrogen, says Adam Elman, director of sustainability in EMEA at Google.
