Afternoon events late on Fridays tend not to be well attended, but FORCE Technology defied that law of nature. Many people showed up when the company cut the red ribbon late last Friday afternoon to no less than the world's largest mega loop, which was ready after two years of construction with a budget of 70 million DKK.
In a way, it was the future that knocked on the door when the mega loop was opened, because the facility will calibrate industrial flow meters, such as gas meters, which must be extremely accurate.
The future part is that the facility can be used for calibration with hydrogen mixtures, which opens up the spread of PtX in Denmark. In other words, it is a facility that will be of great importance for at least the next 25 years. It was also a very proud director who could talk about welcoming the opening.
- We have a technology here that no one else can match on a global scale. I can stand up inside the meter, said CEO of FORCE Technology, Hanne Christensen.
Large dimensions
MEGA loop is the largest closed loop of its kind in the world, and it can calibrate with a flow of up to 65,000 m3 per hour. The system can calibrate meter sizes from two inches to 60 inches. A two-inch meter has a diameter of five cm and a 60” meter has an internal diameter of approximately 1.5 meters. The director also made no secret of why calibration is so important.
- Calibration of flow meters can make the difference between whether it ends up being a good business or not, said the director, before she left it to Vejen's conservative mayor Frank Jensen to cut the red ribbon for the MEGA loop.
The plant is located in the industrial district of Vejen.
Professionals from PtX
One company that already has experience with PtX is Electrochaea. The German company is working to establish PtX in Denmark, Switzerland, Germany and the USA.
Head of operations & maintenance from Electrochaea Hans Chr. Knudsen, who DOI.dk has already written about previously, took his colleague Hans Wendelboe, who is an operations technician at Electrochaea, to the opening of the MEGA loop on Friday.
Both Hans Chr. Knudsen and Hans Wendelboe already have hands-on experience with PtX from test facilities in several places around the world. They can easily describe the value of a MEGA loop so that everyone can understand it.
- This is reality and not a spreadsheet. Here you know that the numbers match the calibration. If I were to compare the facility here with the automotive world, we are talking about Formula 1 here, explains Hans Chr. Knudsen, while his colleague nods in agreement.
Correct calibration can make the difference between a good and a bad business, but it also has something to do with legislation.
- There are requirements from authorities that everything must be calibrated. This applies, for example, to the local heating plant here in town or the gas companies, explains Hans Chr. Knudsen, who is so impressed with MEGA loop in Vejen.
