Next week, December 5th, is the deadline for bidding on the three upcoming offshore wind farms in the North Sea. And here politicians should prepare for a potential disappointment – not to say a massive flop. This is what Eurowind Energy and Better Energy say in the Althing.
The electrification of society is going too slowly, and there is therefore too little demand for green electricity from the upcoming offshore wind farms. This means that the billion-dollar investments required will not be profitable, is the diagnosis, and the two energy companies fear that the state will intervene and send state aid to the North Sea projects.
- It will be a really bad solution that will actually destroy the Danish energy market for two or three generations to come. This makes the green transition more expensive for taxpayers and creates a system where there are no incentives to behave sensibly, says Joachim Steenstrup, head of communications, strategy and policy at Eurowind Energy, to the Altinget.
