Energinet initiates work on new development plan towards 2050

The next long-term development plan will set the direction for the expansion of Denmark's electricity, gas and hydrogen systems.

Plan & Byg

Energinet has started work on the next long-term development plan, LUP26, which will form the basis for the development of Denmark's electricity, gas and hydrogen transmission systems up to 2050. The plan is intended to ensure transparency about Energinet's expectations for future expansion needs and possible solutions. Energinet states this in a press release.

The work was officially launched on October 21 with a kick-off meeting, where around 90 representatives from the energy industry, authorities, research institutions and interest groups participated - both physically and online. Here, Energinet presented the process, timetable and main themes for LUP26 and invited people to dialogue and knowledge sharing.

The preparation of LUP26 will run until the end of 2026, when the final plan will be published. Along the way, needs analyses, a solutions catalogue and a main report will be published. A draft will be sent for consultation in the second half of 2026, so that citizens, companies and organizations can make comments.

The plan is based on the Danish Energy Agency's analysis assumptions and must reflect the politically determined goals for the energy system. LUP26 will also be a central basis for Energinet's long-term planning of the electricity grid and the gas and hydrogen infrastructure in Denmark.
