Eltronic FuelTech will expand its head office and complete its test center in Hedensted

To create space for the development and production of fuel systems for, among other things, future ammonia- and methanol-powered ships, Eltronic FuelTech is expanding its head office in Hedensted and is simultaneously moving production in Korea to larger premises.

To create space for the development of new fuel systems, Eltronic FuelTech is now expanding its facilities in Hedensted with a new office and canteen building totaling 2,944 square meters. The new building, which is being built by Eltronic Group, has three floors with space for a total of 190 employees and is expected to be completed in October 2024.

In connection with the expansion of the head office, the existing 10,000 square meter development and test center will also be completed, where work is already underway on the future X-to-power technology, the company said in a statement.

- There is no doubt that methanol and ammonia are the future when it comes to green shipping. With the expansion of the head office, we will be even stronger and better equipped to support demand, which will only increase in the future, says Louise Andreasen, CEO of Eltronic FuelTech.

Also expansion abroad

Upgrading is also a key word when it comes to the Korean department, as of July 1, 2023, the current Korean production has recently been moved to larger premises in the city of Yangsan. The new facilities include administration, production, warehouse and training facilities.

- Some of the core products that we currently produce in Hedensted are being moved to Korea to get closer to customers there. This will free up more space to develop, test and focus on the development of future products within methanol and ammonia in Hedensted, supports Louise Andreasen.

Eltronic FuelTech expects greater demand for green fuels in the future. This is being built, among other things, that earlier this year a successful test was carried out where the combustion of ammonia was carried out on a MAN B&W two-stroke 4T50ME-X type engine. Eltronic FuelTech has developed the associated supply and safety system in collaboration with MAN Energy Solutions, DTU and the Norwegian classification society DNV.

Thus, the technology that makes it possible to use ammonia as a ship fuel is ready for the next step towards commercial production.

- It is only now that we have the technology to safely handle ammonia as a fuel, and this is a huge breakthrough in our journey towards green shipping, because ammonia is among the few usable fuels if we are to achieve zero-carbon shipping. We are already experiencing that the demand is present in the market, and as soon as the engine is put into production, we will also be ready with both the supply and safety system, says Louise Andreasen.

The finished ammonia engine is expected to be ready at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025, and the technology should also be able to be implemented on ships in the existing fleet.
