All shares in the Danish C25 index close in the red on Monday. Overall, the elite index falls by 2.7 percent, which is the worst trading day since July 29, 2025.

Monday's decline comes after US President Donald Trump threatened on Saturday to impose an additional ten percent tariff on goods from Denmark and a number of European countries from February 1. The background is that the countries have sent forces to Greenland, which according to Trump poses a security risk.

According to the Financial Times, EU countries are considering responding by imposing tariffs on American goods worth almost 700 billion kroner. The media outlet wrote on Sunday based on information from unnamed officials.

- Danish shares took a hard hit on Monday after Trump once again pulled out his favorite tool from his toolbox: the tariff hammer, writes Philip Jagd, head of equities at Sampension, in a comment.

From June 1, the tariff is scheduled to increase to 25 percent if an agreement has not yet been reached on "complete and total takeover of Greenland". Higher tariffs could hit Danish companies because their goods will become more expensive to buy for American consumers. According to Philip Jagd, the development in Danish stocks will depend on whether the threats are true.

- How the development will be in the coming days will depend, among other things, on whether the tariff threats from the White House are true this time, or whether it is mostly noise from Trump, as we have seen time and again in his first year as president, says the stock manager.

In addition to Denmark, Trump wants to impose tariffs on Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland.
