The government launched its strategic effort for artificial intelligence - also referred to as AI (Artificial Intelligence, ed.) - at a press conference on Monday.
- What we want to do with our initiative is to bring artificial intelligence closer to citizens, says Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen (S), who calls the potential "enormous".
At the presentation at Aalborg University in Copenhagen, the Finance Minister was flanked by Digitalization Minister Caroline Stage (M).
- We have all the prerequisites to take control here. Denmark has always been among the best at embracing new technology, she says.
In the strategy, the government has, among other things, a vision that "Denmark must be a world leader in artificial intelligence in the public sector". Because here, artificial intelligence can help "free up labor, reduce administration and increase quality".
One of four initiatives in the strategy is therefore to establish a group of civil servants who, by March, will come up with a target for how many full-time equivalents in the public sector can be freed up with the help of artificial intelligence towards 2030. The group of civil servants' task is to land somewhere between 10,000 and 99,999 full-time equivalents.
- This is about how we best use the time of our skilled employees. In the government, we would very much like to spend fewer employees on administration and more employees out with the citizens. AI is one of the tools for this, says Nicolai Wammen.
The strategy also includes government support for the development of targeted language models that can be the backdrop for, for example, chatbots that can be used in the public sector and in private companies.
A language model is used, for example, by the popular chatbot ChatGPT, so that the chatbot can respond and write in a way that resembles human-generated text. The development of Danish language models will take place at several of the country's universities and the Alexandra Institute in the Danish Foundations Models collaboration. In total, over 100 million DKK has been allocated for the initiatives in the strategy until 2027.
