VARDE: At an extraordinary city council meeting on Monday evening, a large majority in Varde City Council adopted, among other things, a local plan and municipal plan supplement for a planned combined data center and greenhouse in Krageris north of Ølgod. This is reported by JydskeVestkysten. Only the Nærdemokraterna and Danmarksdemokraterna, a total of three city council members, voted against the project, which is estimated to cost 37 billion. DKK.

Several politicians highlighted during the discussion the possibility of up to 600 jobs that the new facility is expected to create. "There are so many development opportunities in the tail of the Krageris project. It is a brave city council that takes on responsibility for the municipality's future," said, for example, chairwoman of the technology and environment committee Jonna Jul Gudmundsen (S).

The plans are now being sent for public consultation, and in a month's time a citizens' meeting will be held about the plans, which include a project area of approximately 174 hectares, where there will be room for up to 225,000 m2 of data center and 475,000 m2 of greenhouses, a total of 70 hectares.

About the project

  • The project is a sector coupling project. This means that the excess heat generated by the data center will be used to heat the greenhouses, so that vegetables can be grown all year round.
  • The construction is expected to be completed in 2030.
  • The municipality has hired an external community consultant to strengthen the dialogue with the local community. A dialogue group has also been established, consisting of neighbors who have volunteered.
