Parties will still negotiate climate policy with Aagaard despite distrust

Even though the opposition has declared no confidence in Lars Aagaard, they will still negotiate climate policy with him.

Even though all parties outside the government have declared their no-confidence in Climate Minister Lars Aagaard, it will not be impossible for the government to conduct and negotiate climate policy. Several of the green parties will still show up for Lars Aagaard's climate negotiations.

- I will not refrain from showing up for negotiations that I am invited to. I have my eyes on the green ball and the green transition, says Samira Nawa, climate spokesperson for the Radical Party.

Although she denies that the opposition's no-confidence motion should hold climate policy hostage, she maintains that the poor relationship with the minister could become a problem.

- It is clear that the minister could be standing in the way of those negotiations. Now there is a conciliation meeting that has been cancelled, says Samira Nawa.

She explains that it is generally difficult to negotiate with someone "whom you fundamentally do not trust".

- I think the government should take action on that.

The Unity Party does not want to disrupt climate policy negotiations either.

- For the Unity Party, there is nothing more important than climate policy as such. So we will not boycott or do anything else of the minister and thus climate policy, says Leila Stockmarr, climate spokesperson.

- But we will demand from the minister that new things come to the table in the cooperation with the Folketing.

Question: What value does your vote of no confidence have then?

- It has the value that it must be a very clear signal to the minister that we cannot continue in this way, says Leila Stockmarr.

There are several important climate policy negotiations pending. For example, the Folketing is to adopt new climate targets for 2035 and 2040 this year. Here the opposition will still assert itself, even if the minister does not have their trust.

- We would like to see us treated in a different way than this process has shown, says Leila Stockmarr.

Nor will the Conservatives in the future stand in the way of climate policy negotiations. Climate spokesperson Dina Rabjerg simply does not believe that Lars Aagaard is the right minister to lead the transition to its goal.

- We have always wanted the green transition. We wanted it before the consultation, during the consultation and after the consultation. That is what is important to us, she says.
