ODENSE: Municipal politicians in Odense will be visited today by three experts who will advise them on whether it might make sense in the long term to send nuclear-heated district heating water to the residents of Funen. This is reported by DR.
In August, a majority of the climate and environment committee decided that Odense Municipality would initiate a study of the possibility of nuclear power.
Here, the administration's argument was that "it is relevant to identify whether nuclear power can be a more effective way to reduce emissions (CO2, ed.)".
Odense Municipality is currently facing the challenge of having to decide on the specific establishment of CO2 capture, and in the administration's own words, this is associated with "long-term and capital-intensive" investments. Therefore, according to the administration, it is crucial that Odense Municipality "works holistically and highlights both opportunities and challenges, in order to ensure a robust and long-term business case".
The growing interest in nuclear power in Odense Municipality is, among other things, prompted by the government's decision from the spring to investigate whether it would make sense to reconsider the use of nuclear power in Denmark.
Nuclear power has been banned in Denmark since 1985 and therefore it ultimately requires a change in the law in the Folketing if nuclear power is to become a reality in Odense.
