Danish companies contribute DKK 101 billion in taxes: Those in the energy industry contribute the most

Danish energy companies play a significant role in financing the welfare state. New figures from the Ministry of Taxation show that several companies within the energy sector were among the top 100 contributors of corporate tax in 2023.

Danish companies contributed a total of DKK 101.7 billion in corporate tax in 2023, which is the second highest ever. The Ministry of Taxation reports this and at the same time publishes a list of the 100 largest corporate tax payers that year. A total of 13 companies within electricity, gas, oil, refining, wind energy and energy trading are on the list.

The most significant energy players are the state-owned Ørsted, which contributed over a billion kroner in corporate tax, which places the company in 9th place among the largest contributors. In addition, energy traders in the form of Centrica Energy Trading and Danske Commodities can also be found in the top 15 with tax payments of DKK 785 and DKK 667 million, respectively. kr.

Companies such as Nordsøfonden, TotalEnergies EP Danmark, OK A.M.B.A., Energinet and Andel Holding can also be found on the top 100 list presented by the Ministry of Taxation.

A total of approximately 94,000 Danish companies and groups were behind the tax payments, which exceeded 100 billion kr. The companies will receive a thank you from Minister of Taxation Rasmus Stoklund (S).

This is due to solid Danish companies and companies that create jobs and security for the individual who goes to work. At the same time, with their corporate tax payments, they make a great contribution to our common welfare and security in a turbulent time. So I would like to say a big thank you to all the many companies, their owners and employees for their contribution to the financing of the Danish welfare society and the strengthening of the defense, says the minister in a press release.

The list is topped by Novo Holdings, which is the Novo Nordisk Foundation's investment company, and which owns large stakes in companies such as Novo Nordisk and Novonesis. The holding company paid 15.3 billion. DKK in corporate tax in 2023, which is almost twice as much as in 2022.

Number two on the list is Danske Bank, which, among other things, due to a new additional tax for financial companies, reached a tax payment of 4.6 billion. DKK. Number three is the Lego family Kirk Kristiansen's investment company, Kirkbi A/S, which has paid 3.8 billion. DKK. in tax.
