21 new research projects receive support from the Independent Research Foundation of Denmark under the theme 'Green research'. A total of DKK 145 million has been awarded, which will contribute to promoting the green transition through interdisciplinary research into, among other things, eco-villages, robust crops and CO2 storage. This is according to the Independent Research Foundation of Denmark.

The researchers behind the projects will, among other things, investigate how democracy can be strengthened in line with climate change, and how new forests affect the water cycle, while at the same time ensuring that drinking water remains clean.

- The projects have a background in different disciplines, but what is characteristic of all of them is their attempt to solve the many problems within the green transition. With applications within both CO2 storage, sustainable food production and the breakdown and recycling of plastic, the research projects are well-suited to the challenges of the green transition, says Jan O. Jeppesen, who is the representative of DFF | Thematic research – Green research and professor at the University of Southern Denmark.

There is a requirement that the projects involve at least one PhD student or postdoc in order to strengthen the growth layer in Danish research.

The Independent Research Foundation of Denmark has received 415 applications for the theme ‘Green research’, and 21 projects have received grants – corresponding to a success rate of 5 percent. The theme is one of 12 politically determined research areas that the foundation will allocate funds to in 2025.
