NKT, in collaboration with BritNed, has completed the repair of the BritNed power cable connecting the UK and the Netherlands. The fault was located onshore in the Netherlands and was quickly repaired to minimise downtime for the 450 kV DC high-voltage connection.
NKT carried out the cutting and sealing work on the damaged cable and provided technical support to BritNed. A new cable section was installed and assembled within less than 20 days of the fault occurring, NKT said in a press release.
- Our customers trust us because of our technical expertise and short response time. We were able to mobilise a team quickly after being notified of the fault and deployed 12 installers and site managers from Sweden. The rapid mobilisation and repair was made possible by a service agreement and good cooperation with the parties involved. The cable is now fully operational and delivering sustainable energy between the UK and the Netherlands, says Axel Barnekow-Widmark, EVP, Service & Installation at NKT.
The collaboration between NKT, BritNed and other external partners was highlighted as crucial to the rapid resolution of the fault. NKT’s ongoing service agreement with BritNed played a key role in mobilising the repair team, which contributed to the rapid restoration of the power connection.
- NKT’s rapid and professional response ensured that the connection was back in service quickly, minimising disruption to our operations. Their expertise and readiness were invaluable, and their commitment to the project and willingness to work together were key to quickly getting the cable back in service, says Stewart Whyte, Operations Director at BritNed, the operator of the connection.
