It is early morning at Grumsens Maskinfabrik, where COO Kim Nygaard greets three schoolchildren from Copenhagen schools who are on a week-long internship as blacksmiths in Esbjerg. During their stay, the students have learned to weld, drill and CNC mill. This is reported by Business Esbjerg.
- Parents are happy with student caps, states Kim Nygaard.
- It is not enough that no one is being trained anymore. We need to turn things around, he says.
He emphasizes that Grumsens Maskinfabrik is actively working to find more apprentices and is involved where possible in promoting the trained education programs.
- We are involved in all the places where a flag for skilled workers can be raised. We have to do that, he says.
Kim Nygaard hopes that more young people will open their eyes to the possibilities of a skilled career – and that Esbjerg can become a natural choice for the craftsmen of the future.
