The Atomkraft Ja Tak association accuses Andel of conducting a smear campaign

The energy group Andel has launched a nationwide information campaign that takes a critical stance towards the use of nuclear power in Denmark. This is happening at the same time that the government has decided to investigate the possibilities for new nuclear power technology. On banners and in digital advertisements, Andel asks, among other things: "Have you read the fine print about nuclear power?" The campaign presents a number of reservations about the technology and instead points to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. According to Andel, nuclear power can delay the green transition, says the company's head of strategic sustainability, Nette Kirkegaard, to DR.

- We have a position on nuclear power because there is a risk that it could delay the transition to renewable energy. We want to focus on the sources that we know are renewable today, and which we know are cheaper than all other forms of energy, including nuclear power, she says.

The Atomic Power Ja Tak association calls Andel's campaign a "slander campaign" and questions several of the assumptions on which the company bases its communication. Among other things, Andel has previously claimed that nuclear power will double the electricity bill, but that formulation has since been changed after criticism. Andel points out that electricity from nuclear power plants in Western Europe is significantly more expensive than electricity from Danish wind turbines and solar cells. According to the company, a shift in focus to nuclear power could damage the pace of the green transition.
