Energinet has embarked on a comprehensive construction project that will equip Central and West Jutland to handle more green electricity. A total of 190 km of cable systems will be established on nine sections, where overhead lines will be taken down and new cables will be laid underground. The first section consists of a 15.5 km long section between Endrup and Karlsgårde near Esbjerg and Varde, where a 150 kV cable system will be laid underground. A 150 kV cable system is now underway.
The project will both ensure the connection of renewable energy from wind turbines and solar cells and increase supply to existing and new consumers. Prior to the construction work, Energinet has entered into voluntary agreements with 37 landowners and carried out environmental screenings. Archaeological investigations at Årre have also resulted in a number of new finds, which are now being examined by the National Museum.
- How fantastic that we have finally come so far that we can begin construction work. We have been on the road for a long time and have been in dialogue with landowners, neighbors, municipalities, archaeologists and ministries to get permits and agreements in place. Now it is primarily you, the contractors, who have the baton, says main project manager Mikael Mønsted from Energinet in a press release.
The excavation work on the section is expected to be completed in July 2025. The entire project in Central and West Jutland is expected to be completed in 2030.
