In 2021, the public data collaboration, Denmark's Environmental Portal, created a platform called VanDa, which contains data on watercourses, lakes and marine areas, to follow developments in the Danish aquatic environment and make it easier to access and reuse water data. Data - which until now - has come from municipalities, regions and the Danish Environment Agency.
But now Sund & Bælt, which plans, constructs and operates some of Denmark's largest public infrastructure projects, will be the first developer to share data on the platform. The first data that Sund & Bælt will share is for the establishment of a possible Eastern Ring Road in Copenhagen. This is stated by Denmark's Environmental Portal in a statement.
- As a responsible developer, Sund & Bælt works daily to collect and document data on our projects and ensure transparency for all stakeholders. VanDa is an exciting initiative that can both create greater openness and knowledge of the aquatic environment, and we would very much like to participate in and promote this knowledge sharing, says Gunnar Peter Jensen, Environmental Consultant at Sund & Bælt.
Denmark's Environmental Portal hopes that Sund & Bælt's initiative can create a trend.
- We hope that Sund & Bælt can create a trend of sharing data among developers, so that it becomes easier and cheaper to make knowledge-based decisions. But also because it is obvious to include in ESG reporting, which the EU requires, says Nils Høgsted, head of the secretariat for Denmark's Environmental Portal, and notes that they are working to adapt the user interface so that it better matches the needs of developers.
