With a new political agreement, vocational schools will receive a financial boost and freedom to assess how the money is best spent. This is stated in a press release from the Ministry of Children and Education.

Overall, over half a billion kroner will be allocated annually from 2030 to increase the quality of vocational education. From 2025, 262 million kroner will be allocated, increasing to 317 million from 2032 onwards, to schools without binding arrangements.

The money will be used, among other things, to increase well-being and create better coherence between teaching at schools and time spent in training.

- With this huge investment in vocational education, we are now ensuring that those who follow the skilled path receive education of even higher quality.

- It is time for us to invest significantly in the education of skilled workers, says Minister of Children and Education Mattias Tesfaye (S) in the announcement.

Initiatives must reduce dropout rates

The 30 initiatives in the agreement focus particularly on reducing dropout rates. Four out of ten students drop out of vocational education. The agreement eases the possibility of being admitted to the country's boarding schools, where students and apprentices can live with others during their education.

Today, students must have at least five quarters of an hour's travel time to the education to be admitted, but the requirement is now lowered to three quarters of an hour. In addition, the subsidy for educational stays abroad will be increased.

The goal is to increase the proportion of students and apprentices who take part of their education outside the country's borders fivefold. Skilled teachers are crucial for the quality of teaching, the agreement states, and therefore pedagogical continuing education must be strengthened.

Vocational schools are also obliged to visit students in their training companies.

The agreement was concluded by the government together with the Danish Democrats, the Socialist Party, the Liberal Alliance, the Conservatives, the Unity List, the Danish People's Party, the Radicals and the Alternative.

Last year, two other agreements were concluded in this area.

The new agreement means that a total of around one billion kroner will be prioritized for vocational education from 2030 onwards.
