This weekend, there was a meeting between the mayors of the 18 members of the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP), which is a global association of leading energy cities in the world. The meeting took place in Stavanger and here, among other things, a president was elected who will lead the association for the next two years.

Here, the 18 members once again chose to point to Mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen (V) from Esbjerg, who has held the position of president for the past two years. This is stated in a statement by Esbjerg Municipality.

- I am happy and proud of the vote of confidence that the other member cities show by once again pointing to me as president. For Esbjerg, both the membership of WECP and my first term as president have served as a unique showcase, where our green transition has so much inspired the other cities. Even though Esbjerg cannot compare in size to some of the other member cities, people have listened attentively when I have talked about what our companies can do and how far we have come on our way towards a more sustainable everyday life, says Jesper Frost Rasmussen.

WECP was formed in 1995. Esbjerg has been a member since 2013, where the city has, among other things, worked to ensure that the association's focus has changed from being exclusively on oil and gas to also include renewable energy and the transition to more sustainable energy sources such as offshore wind and green hydrogen.
