Aarhus School of Mechanical Engineering receives DKK 10 million for practice-oriented research in green transition

Aarhus School of Marine Engineering has received a donation of 10 million DKK from the shipbuilding company NORDEN A/S to establish AAMS Maritime Synergy Hub (AMSH). The center will be a platform for research and development of new green energy technologies and position the engineer as a key figure in the green transition. The school writes in a press release.

A new ecosystem for innovation

AMSH will be a central platform where industry, technological institutes and knowledge institutions collaborate on the development of energy technologies on an industrial scale.

- AMSH gives us a unique opportunity to bring together industry, research and education in a joint effort to accelerate the green transition. We are proud to be frontrunners in maritime energy technologies and see the engineer as a central player in this transformation, says Rector Anders Hanberg Sørensen.

From education to practical application

The center is being developed in three steps: integration of green dual-fuel engines, building fuel infrastructure, and battery storage and hybrid integration. Everything is tied together with advanced digital solutions such as digital twins and data clusters.

- We want AMSH to become a dynamic learning and development hub that creates value for the entire maritime sector. AMSH will be a unique opportunity to combine education, research and practical applications in a way that not only improves our technology, but also changes the way we think about it, adds Anders Hanberg Sørensen.

Testing and certification in realistic environments

AMSH will function as a remote laboratory where companies can test technologies in realistic scenarios. The project builds on Aarhus School of Engineering's network within green transition and industrial collaborations.

- We create an ecosystem where technology and knowledge meet and develop. Companies can test their solutions in real-life environments, and our students learn to think holistically about system integration and sustainability. It is an investment in future competencies and green solutions, explains business developer Casper Raahede.

AMSH will be a crucial platform for the development of green technology. Aarhus School of Marine Engineering encourages companies and knowledge institutions to participate and contribute practical knowledge.

- We want to make AMSH a dynamic ecosystem where the maritime sector can find solutions that drive both growth and sustainability, concludes Anders Hanberg Sørensen.
