Strong throttles down on offshore wind: Adjusting strategy after slowdown in the industry

The steel company in Aalborg remains busy in the industry, but downplays the focus on offshore wind, which was otherwise intended as a main area of the business

The steel company Sterke, with 150 employees, is located in the port of Aalborg Øst. The company is one of Denmark's largest suppliers to industry and was formed in 2022 through a merger of three North Jutland machine factories. This is reported by Nordjyske.

When the company was established, offshore wind was intended as a central business area. But developments in the industry have led Sterke to change strategy. After a year of slowing down in the market, steel structures for offshore wind are no longer a prominent focus area for the company.

- There has not been the activity in the offshore wind industry that we expected, and at the same time we are being pressured by cheap production in Asia, says Kim Palsgaard Thomsen, CEO of Sterke.

However, the company continues to have a solid level of activity, especially within industrial and maritime solutions, and last year had to hire extra labor to keep up. In 2024, Sterke delivered a profit of DKK 9.5 million after tax.

Despite the current challenges, management expects demand to return and that Sterke is ready to take part in the development when activity in offshore wind increases again.
