Like many others, the tower manufacturer Valmont SM is also affected by the high energy prices. The company has had to see its electricity bill double, rising to a whopping two million kroner per month.
- These are some abnormal energy prices that we are currently paying. Among other things, we use an annealing furnace to anneal some large items, and it costs a fortune to do so, says CEO Niels Brix to Børsen.
The solution to the high electricity prices will be in-house production at Valmont. The company is planning a large solar park on its own fields with an output of ten MWh. The ten-hectare solar cell plant will be located right next to the company in Southern Jutland, but it is not expected to be completed until at least a year later.
- Unfortunately, it is a very slow process to get such a plant through the public approvals and permits. The supplier of the technology in the solar cell plant is ready, but it will probably be another 15 months before we produce the first kWh for our own production. It is an unfortunate delay – and incomprehensible that it should take so long, says Niels Brix, to Tekniq Arbejdsgiverne.
