For the second time in recent months, Energi Fyn has issued a warning to its customers about fraud. Several customers of the energy company received a fake text message on Friday evening from scammers who tried to lure them into paying a fictitious electricity bill via a link. Energi Fyn states this in a press release.
Specifically, the scammers have sent this message:
"Dear [name] Your account is -xxx kr. at EnergiFyn. If it is not paid before 16/2 at 00, your electricity will be disconnected for a fee.
Pay here [link]".
- This is certainly not the first time that we have seen this type of fraud. Back in August, a very similar text message was rampant, says Anette Bøgesvang Thorup, customer center manager at Energi Fyn.
The police quickly issued a warning about the scam, and Energi Fyn emphasizes that they never send text messages with direct payment links. According to the company, the last time they warned about similar scam attempts was in December.
Customers who have clicked on the link or provided information are encouraged to create a block on borger.dk and contact Energi Fyn's customer center for guidance. However, not many have fallen into the trap, Energi Fyn reports.
- Despite yet another scam attempt, there is a good atmosphere in the house today. Colleagues have been aware of the text message, and we can hear that many have had the police warning forwarded by family, friends and acquaintances in the network. So something indicates that we have all become better at warning each other. That's why we have fortunately had fewer panicked customers on the phone than we experienced just six months ago, says Anette Bøgesvang Thorup.
