AARHUS: The Danish Democrats, the Danish People's Party and the Liberal Alliance want to investigate whether nuclear power can become part of the future energy supply in Aarhus. That is why the parties have put nuclear power on the agenda at the next city council meeting in the municipality. This is reported by TV2 Østjylland.
During the election campaign, the Liberal Alliance has presented a political proposal that Denmark should build six to eight nuclear power reactors over the next 10-15 years. The proposal builds on a proposal for nuclear power that the Liberal Alliance put forward last year.
According to the party, one of the nuclear power reactors will be located at the Studstrup power plant in Aarhus.
Now the three parties want the Municipality of Aarhus to take a more concrete stance on the issue of nuclear power. Therefore, they have put forward five points, which include that the technical and environmental administration initiate a dialogue with the municipality's utility company Kredsløb about an analysis of the possibilities for nuclear power.
Last year, Aarhus Mayor Anders Winnerskjold (S) criticized the proposal for nuclear power, calling it both "crazy" and "unrealistic".
- I wouldn't be so worried about the proposal if it were me. It's unrealistic, the mayor said at the time.
Minister has initiated analysis
Nevertheless, in January, Minister of Climate and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M) initiated an analysis of how and whether nuclear power can play a role in the future energy system in Denmark.
- I completely agree with those who say that solar and wind energy should have a major role as what supplies us with electricity in the future. But it cannot stand alone, said Lars Aagaard as justification for the decision.
Lars Aagaard has, however, criticized the Liberal Alliance's nuclear power proposal. This should be seen in particular in light of the party's proposal to finance nuclear power by taking support from the current offshore wind supply and the Bornholm Energy Island.
- It shows that the Blue Bloc's energy policy, as in so many other policy areas, is completely in shambles, criticized the minister.
Since 1985, nuclear power has been a prohibited element in Danish energy planning.
