NKT is expanding production at its Nordenham factory in Germany to keep up with the growing European demand for medium-voltage accessories for power cables. Capacity is expected to increase by more than 50 percent, and the new facilities are expected to be fully operational in 2026, NKT said in a press release.

The expansion is part of the company's overall effort to strengthen both the production and installation of power cables globally. NKT points out that cable accessories play a central role in the upgrade of power grids, and the Nordenham factory is therefore receiving a significant technological and capacity upgrade.

- We are experiencing significant demand for our medium-voltage accessories, especially from Central Europe, the global wind sector and OEM customers. In order to maintain security of supply, meet market needs and strengthen our competitiveness, we have initiated this capacity expansion. The expansion demonstrates our continued commitment to the energy transition and our role as a stable partner for customers in Europe and globally, says Denis Schuler, Executive Vice President and Head of Accessories at NKT.

The upgrade of the factory includes new machinery for the production of silicone-based medium-voltage accessories, which is the factory’s main product. The investment is also intended to strengthen the organization and may lead to a larger workforce. Today, approximately 320 employees work at the factory, which serves as NKT’s center for medium-voltage accessories.
