A new wave of fraud is currently hitting Danish electricity customers, and Andel Energi is warning its more than 1 million customers not to fall into the trap. The scammers are sending emails and text messages that look like payment reminders, and threatening to disconnect the electricity if payment is not made quickly. This is what Andel Energi writes.
The fake messages use Andel Energi's name and logo and contain links to pay amounts of either DKK 128 or DKK 322. Andel Energi emphasizes that this is a scam, and urges customers to be especially careful.
– Be skeptical. If you receive a message about missing payment, always check your latest bills extra carefully. Both in the Andel Energi app and in our self-service at andelenergi.dk, you as a customer can log in and see your real bills. Here you can see if there is actually a possible lack of payment, says Josefine Walter, commercial director at Andel Energi.
The scammers typically threaten that the electricity will be turned off if you do not pay within a few days. But Andel Energi emphasizes that the company never turns off the electricity without prior dialogue and a debt collection process.
- At Andel Energi, we never threaten to turn off the electricity at short notice. If, in the extreme, it may be necessary to turn off electricity or gas to a customer, there will always be a long process of both debt collection and dialogue prior to such a drastic action. Andel Energi never turns off the electricity solely due to late payment, says Josefine Walter.
According to Andel Energi, phishing attacks like these are becoming increasingly advanced and widespread, and the scammers have become better at imitating the energy company's communication. Customers are encouraged to contact the company directly if they have any doubts.
