Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality has big plans to supply its district heating customers with heat from the ambitious Megaton project outside Tarm in West Jutland. With an expected production of surplus heat from the PtX plant, the municipality sees a unique opportunity to deliver cheaper district heating and reduce CO2 emissions. Despite the significant costs of establishing the necessary transmission lines, both politicians and local district heating plants see potential in utilizing the Megaton project to achieve climate goals and create local jobs. This is reported by Dagbladet Ringkøbing Skjern.
- There is an expectation in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality that Megaton will deliver something more than 'just' electricity and hydrogen, and we can and would very much like to deliver that 'more' in the form of surplus heat, which provides water with a flow temperature of 60-74 degrees, says Ellen Fjendsbo from GreenGo Energy.
The Megaton project therefore does not only for a new source of supply, but also for a step towards realizing the municipality's ambitious climate goals. Although there are still many technical and economic aspects to be clarified, the project paints a picture of the future of district heating in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality.
