Rasmus Errboe, a law graduate from Jutland, has been working in the Danish energy giant Ørsted for almost 13 years. But despite his many years in the group, Errboe is a relatively unwritten page in the public eye.
He is known internally, and now the board of directors has appointed him as Ørsted's new CEO from February 1, 2025. Rasmus Errboe has been with the energy giant for more than a decade, and in the past two years he has made a meteoric career at Ørsted.
During that period, he has been promoted to first director of the company's assets in Europe, then CFO and in March deputy CEO, before taking the top position on Saturday.
Errboe's promotion to interim CFO in November 2023 also testified that he is a man the board of directors and the top have great confidence in.
The promotion came in the wake of Ørsted's troubles with the construction of the Ocean Wind 1 and 2 wind farms in the US, which cost the then CFO Daniel Lerup his job. The energy giant had to abandon the construction as the projects had become much more expensive to build due to delays in supply chains and rising interest rates. In this connection, the total write-downs amounted to 28.4 billion. DKK.
Green Power Denmark CEO: Errboe is pulling in a different direction than Nipper
Kristan Jensen, who is the director of Green Power Denmark, also notes that Ørsted's new CEO is a man who knows the industry very well - and the industry knows him very well. While Mads Nipper was a prominent figure in the public eye when he stepped into the top in 2021 with top positions in Lego and Grundfos in his back catalogue, Errboe is pulling in the other direction.
- He is more private than Mads Nipper, who has lived in many different positions with great attention. It suits Rasmus Errboe well to have his nose in the sand and take care of his work and the tasks he has been given, says Kristian Jensen.
Rasmus Errboe will take over and manage Ørsted again, after the company has recently been hit by difficult circumstances.
- You choose someone who has deep industry knowledge because you need to ensure that you have someone who can manage the business from day one, says Kristian Jensen.
It is also the in-depth knowledge of the industry, the sector and the business that Rasmus Errboe emphasizes in connection with Ørsted's announcement of his promotion on Thursday.
- I have in-depth knowledge of our industry, and together with our talented employees, I and the management will work tirelessly to create value for our customers, our shareholders and our other stakeholders, he says in a stock exchange announcement.
