Only 20 percent of students have chosen a vocational education after primary school this year. That number has not changed for years, and it is worrying the trade organization TEKNIQ. This is what TEKNIQ writes in a press release.
- We are in the middle of a sustainable and digital transformation, where Denmark increasingly needs more skilled workers. There is a need to confront the prejudices about where the good career and job opportunities are. At the same time, targeted investments are needed - especially technical vocational education - so that the money is spent where the demand is greatest and technological development is strongest, says Maria Schougaard Berntsen, deputy director of TEKNIQ.
According to TEKNIQ, the new upper secondary education epx is a positive step, and the negotiations on vocational education can also contribute. But that's not enough, it says.
- The new upper secondary education, epx, is a good step on the way, and the ongoing negotiations on vocational education are also pushing in the right direction. But there is still a long way to go before vocational education is a real first choice for many young people - and that requires focus on the quality of the education. Nobody bothers to take a discount education, says Maria Schougaard Berntsen.
