China has lifted an export ban to the United States on Sunday on goods containing three types of metals. These are the metals gallium, germanium and antimony. This was announced by China's Ministry of Commerce on Sunday, according to the Reuters news agency.

The export ban, which was introduced in December last year, has been temporarily lifted until November 27, 2026, it appears. The three special types of metals are used in various forms of electronics such as semiconductors, among other things.

Sunday's announcement from China's Ministry of Commerce comes two weeks after US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in South Korea to conclude a trade agreement. Here, the presidents agreed to lower tariffs and put other trade restrictions on hold for a year.

At the meeting, China also agreed to put on hold a tightening of controls on the export of rare earths.

China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday that controls on rare earths and materials for lithium batteries had been temporarily lifted for a period until November 10, 2026.

The relationship between the United States and China has been strained for much of 2025, after Donald Trump announced import tariffs on goods from most of the world on April 2.

China quickly responded with tariffs on American goods, and the two countries repeatedly increased tariffs on each other before meeting at the negotiating table. The United States and China agreed on a 90-day pause in their trade war on May 12.

In October, China announced new restrictions on rare earth exports, prompting Trump to threaten China with additional tariffs. After a meeting in late October between Trump and Xi Jinping, the two presidents expressed hope for a stable relationship in the future.
