Green Power Denmark welcomes DI's proposal

There is a need for a plan for electrification of society that can remove fossil fuels from our consumption. That is why Green Power Denmark welcomes the Confederation of Danish Industry's (Dansk Industri) joining the fight.

Green Power Denmark has long been pushing for the government and the Danish Parliament to implement a plan for electrification of society that can remove fossil fuels from our consumption. Therefore, the green business organization welcomes the fact that the Confederation of Danish Industry is now also joining the field.

– We put the need for electrification of Denmark and Europe at the center of our Summit in May, and we have, among other things, proposed a reduction in the electricity tax in our own budget bill. That is why we are very pleased that the Confederation of Danish Industry is joining the debate on faster electrification, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.

Electricity consumption must multiply for Denmark to achieve its climate goal and Power-to-X ambitions. In 2030, it should reach 94 terawatt-hours.

However, an analysis by Green Power Denmark shows that electricity consumption in Denmark has only increased by one terawatt-hour since a broad majority in the Danish Parliament set the climate target in 2020. This corresponds to two percent of the necessary direct and indirect electrification up to 2030. That is why Green Power Denmark last year came up with a proposal for how the electrification of transport, heating and industry can be accelerated.

- We need a political electrification plan so that we can replace fossil fuels with green electricity in our consumption. In this way, we can lower energy prices, reduce CO2 emissions, make ourselves independent of scoundrels like Putin and make our companies more competitive, says Kristian Jensen.

Green Power Denmark's calculation shows that it is particularly lagging behind in adding green electricity to the processes in Danish companies in industry.

– There is no doubt that many companies want to electrify. But more are hesitant to take the step, as it can be a large financial investment here and now. Therefore, politicians should help and encourage companies to make the green and electric choice, says Kristian Jensen.
