According to a new report from Energinet, Denmark risks becoming the country in Europe that does the worst job of covering its own electricity consumption, a comparison with neighboring countries shows, writes Energy Supply. The report expects, among other things, that Denmark's self-sufficiency rate in 2035 will be the lowest among neighboring countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland.
- This is a development that we must be aware of and pay attention to, says Benjamin Dickow, system manager for long-term planning at Energinet.
In 2035, Denmark could lack up to 7 GW in Western Denmark and 3 GW in Eastern Denmark during the most critical hours. The report shows that the country's ability to cover electricity consumption during peak hours will decrease by 50 percentage points by 2035.
