In the 2023 Finance Act, the Energy Museum at Tange was granted 5.8 million. DKK, after the museum had otherwise had to announce that they were forced to close to the public. Now the Energy Museum is again included in this year's Finance Act, where it receives an extraordinary 1 million. DKK in support from the pool for local initiatives.
The Energy Museum is receiving an "extraordinary grant with a view to supporting the museum's communication of the history and contemporary significance of energy," according to the Finance Act.
The chairman of the Energy Museum, Karin Gaardsted, who is also a member of the Danish Parliament for the Social Democrats, is obviously happy about the money:
- It is quite unusual that you receive support two years in a row under the Finance Act, so we are very grateful for that, and we also take it as a gift for the important role that the Energy Museum will play, says Karin Gaardsted.
Close to the finish line
The Energy Museum was able to celebrate its 40th anniversary earlier this year. Last year, the museum lost its operating grant of 6 million DKK after being rejected by the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M).
Since 2002, the museum has received a state operating grant paid out via Energinet for the operation of the museum. In 2022, the Danish Energy Supervisory Authority decided that it was no longer legal to pay out this grant.
Karin Gaardssted says that they are still seeking funds that can help the museum to a more secure future, and that a good two million kr. are still missing continuously for the operating budget to run smoothly.
With the extraordinary support in the Finance Act this year, however, they are a good step closer to reaching their goal, says the chairman.
- With this support, we are very close to the finish line, says Karin Gaardsted.
