The British coastguard has been called to the scene after reports of a collision between a tanker and a container ship off the northeast coast of England. The British coastguard said on Monday, according to Reuters.

The alarm for the incident was raised at 9:48 a.m. local time. This corresponds to 10:48 a.m. Danish time. Two sources with knowledge of the matter tell the BBC that the tanker involved has caught fire. Reuters was not immediately able to verify the information.

The BBC also has a video that, according to the media outlet, allegedly shows the tanker on fire. The video shows flames and a large, dark gray cloud of smoke.

According to the BBC, 32 people have been brought ashore after the collision. Their condition is not yet known, it says. A rescue helicopter from the coastguard has been called to the scene. The same is true of lifeboats and nearby vessels with firefighting capabilities, the coastguard wrote in a statement.

The collision occurred off East Yorkshire in northeastern England.

According to Sky News, the rescue organization Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) stated that four lifeboats have been sent to the area. In addition, "a number of people have left the vessels". The organization says it responded at 10:20 a.m. local time.

- There were reports that a number of people had left the vessels after the collision and that there were fires on both ships, the organization said, according to Sky News.

The media also writes that the ships involved are the oil tanker "Stena Immaculate", which sails under the US flag, and the container ship "Solong", which sails under the Portuguese flag.

The area where the ships collided is a busy stretch of traffic from ports along the British northeast coast towards the Netherlands and Germany. This is what shipping industry sources tell Reuters.
