The economics behind the hydrogen pipeline between Denmark and Germany have been hit by a calculation error that could cause the state's expenses to increase by up to 2.3 billion. DKK. This is reported by TV 2. According to the media outlet, the parties in the Danish Parliament were informed earlier in April at a confidential meeting at the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities that a calculation error could mean an additional cost of up to 2.3 billion. DKK in state operating support. The agreement on support for the project, which was presented in February, had allocated up to 8.3 billion. DKK over 30 years from 2030, but it is now estimated that the cost could reach 10.6 billion. kr.
The purpose of the hydrogen pipeline is to be able to export green Danish hydrogen to Germany, where it can be used in ship and air traffic, among other things. The project has previously been delayed and shortened, and the requirements for hydrogen producers have been relaxed. At the same time, state aid has been introduced as a driving force for the project.
The ministry places responsibility for the calculation error with the Danish Utilities Supervisory Authority and describes it as a "misunderstanding". In a written response, the ministry further states that the parties behind the agreement were informed confidentially. Furthermore, the ministry states that "the calculation error and its handling have no impact on the other content of the political agreement," and that the error "is handled as a changed estimate in the Finance Act according to normal practice." Despite the error, the parties are not withdrawing from the agreement.
