Energinet: Environmental cases and postponed projects slow down electricity grid expansion

Energinet points to three main reasons for delays in the electricity grid.

The extensive delays in the expansion of the Danish electricity grid, which have taken an average of 29 months, are triggering political criticism and concern about the pace of the green transition.

Minister of Climate Lars Aagaard (M) has demanded more realistic schedules and more efficient operation in Energinet.

Now Energinet itself is providing a status after the second quarter of 2025. Here, Energinet points to three main reasons why the schedules for Energinet's transmission projects are being changed:

  1. Continued sharply increasing case processing times for the authorities' environmental approvals.
  2. Developers of solar and wind projects want more time and are postponing their projects.
  3. Energinet's challenges in staffing and delivering the necessary progress in the projects.

This clarifies the latest status of the development in Energinet's approx. 210 transmission projects, the company itself states in a press release.

During the quarter, 31 projects had their schedules extended. 13 of them due to longer waiting times for environmental approvals, five because the customers themselves requested more time, while the rest are due to conditions at municipalities, suppliers or Energinet itself.
