Climate Minister Lars Aagaard is once again lying flat and regretting that he has not informed the opposition about major delays in the expansion of the electricity grid. He does this at a consultation on Wednesday morning, which the opposition has summoned him to.
In recent weeks, Lars Aagaard has been in a decided ministerial storm, where the opposition parties have tried to gather a majority to overthrow him. From a short time into the process, the minister has acknowledged that he should have shared the information with the Folketinget.
- Therefore, I offer my unreserved apology, and I regret the course of events, he says at the consultation.
Climate Minister Lars Aagaard smiled broadly when he arrived at Christiansborg on Wednesday morning.
For a long time, his future seemed under pressure, but after rapid developments on Tuesday afternoon and evening, the minister's majority seems to be secured.
- I am very much looking forward to the consultation, I have been looking forward to that. To answer the committee's questions, and then we will take it from there, was what Aagaard said on his way into the room.
A startlingly broad opposition has tried to pressure the climate minister to the limit in recent weeks. This is after the minister has withheld information about major delays in the expansion of the electricity grid. The opposition worked hard behind the lines to try to create a majority outside the government that would express distrust in Lars Aagaard and try to overthrow him.
That opportunity arose because Karin Liltorp switched from the Moderates to the Alternative, thereby diluting the government's domestic political majority. It was precisely the domestic political aspect that was challenged on Tuesday afternoon.
Here, three North Atlantic mandates announced that they support the government and Lars Aagaard. The same goes for independent Jon Stephensen and Peter Seier Christensen, who is on sick leave. Lars Aagaard therefore had a secure majority behind him on Tuesday afternoon.
