When the oil and energy fair Ons 2024 is held in Stavanger, Norway next week, around 50 Danish climate activists will be present to protest. They will do so together with other Nordic climate activists - including Swedish Greta Thunberg, writes the Green Youth Movement in a press release.

According to the Norwegian news agency NTB, it is a fair where oil and energy companies, related industries and organizations participate. The Green Youth Movement writes that they do a lot of other work on a daily basis than civil disobedience and direct action.

- We are in a completely different political context than in Denmark. Here we are up against an extremely powerful and resource-rich global oil industry. Our voices are infinitely small in comparison, and we have to do completely different things to be seen and heard, says Lea Wiggen Kramhøft, an activist in the Green Youth Movement in the press release.

She emphasizes that they will use the same toolbox of peaceful demonstrations and political strategy that they normally use in Denmark.

However, the press release states that the Danish activists plan to participate in a number of disruptive actions. No further details are given about which ones.

The Ons fair in Norway has been held since 1974. According to NTB, there were 61,000 visitors last year. Leading up to the fair, there has been an increased focus on the security situation.

PST, which is Norway's counterpart to the Police Intelligence Service (PET), will be present at this year's fair to an increased extent. This is what the head of PST in Stavanger, Stig Ledaal, tells NTB. The background is that PST sees a heightened threat picture - especially due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
