The European Commission has today presented its proposal for a Clean Industrial Deal, which will be presented in Brussels on Wednesday. The aim of the proposal is to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe's manufacturing industry. It is struggling with tough international competition and falling demand.

The Danish Hydrogen Industry, which is an interest group for hydrogen and Power-to-X stakeholders in Denmark, is pleased that the European Commission, in its proposal, among other things, points to green hydrogen as a key area in its Clean Industrial Deal. In a press release, the hydrogen industry calls on the Danish government to utilize the new tools made available by the EU.

The hydrogen industry highlights, among other things, that among the key hydrogen initiatives in the plan are a third auction round in the European hydrogen bank, a new hydrogen mechanism to connect production and off-take, and more streamlined processes for state support for green technologies.

- We live in an unstable world, where rules and dogmas that we recently took for granted are now invalid. So Europe must be able to fend for itself, and energy and industry are fundamental prerequisites for our collective security and our ability to compete with the USA and China. The move is the starting point for a new industrial era, where industrial competitiveness and green energy go hand in hand, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen, director of the Hydrogen Industry.

The EU Commission is encouraging member states to use the Auction-as-a-service (AaaS) mechanism in the hydrogen bank, so that national funds can be allocated to hydrogen projects that do not receive a share in the European pool.

- Denmark must follow the Commission's call. We, from the Hydrogen Industry, have constantly encouraged the Danish government to use the AaaS mechanism. Via AaaS, Danish hydrogen projects only have to apply once and in one place, and thus the administrative burden can be significantly reduced, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen.

The hydrogen industry is pleased that the EU is also proposing a hydrogen mechanism under the European hydrogen bank, which will connect the production and sale of green hydrogen.

- We need to streamline as many processes as possible. The Commission's Clean Industrial Deal paves the way for action. Now it must be implemented quickly - also in Denmark - and then we, from the industry's side, are ready to act, concludes Tejs Laustsen Jensen.
