NRGi Renewables has abandoned plans to erect seven wind turbines north of Tønder. The project, which was estimated at around 350 million DKK, is being scrapped because a white-tailed eagle's nest was discovered just 380 meters from the nearest planned turbine at Gallehus Skov. This is reported by TV Syd.
- We received a tip from a neighbor about the white-tailed eagle's nest. However, we have assessed that it was too risky to continue the project in relation to the white-tailed eagle's nest, and instead chose to stop as soon as possible out of consideration for all parties. Especially the residents, says Jakob Bundgaard, CEO of NRGi Renewables.
The decision was made to avoid initiating an extensive process that would involve the local population, require a RE vote and mobilize significant time and financial resources. The white-tailed eagle is protected, and the nest cannot be moved. The risk that the birds or their young could collide with the blades of the wind turbines has previously led to similar stops for energy projects elsewhere in the country. NRGi Renewables is now considering applying to Tønder Municipality for permission to establish a solar cell plant in the area as an alternative to the wind turbines.
