The Danish Energy Agency sends six large open-door wind turbine projects to consultation

After clarifying doubts about whether the projects were covered by the open door scheme, the Danish Energy Agency is now sending six applications for offshore wind projects with a capacity of over one GW to the authority's consultation.

Since April, there has been great interest in new offshore wind farms through the so-called open door scheme. Since 4 April 2022, the Danish Energy Agency has received 47 applications, of which 16 have been rejected due to overlap with state land reservations.

Now, however, the agency will send six further projects for consultation. The applications are located at areas 1-3, 7, 11 and 12 (see map at the top of the article). This is stated by the Danish Energy Agency in a press release.

However, the Danish Energy Agency has had to think about the new projects that are now being submitted for consultation. There are thus a number of applications for "very large projects" (capacity of over one GW each), several of which are located far from the coast. In total, there are applications for up to 8.5155 GW.

Due to the nature of the projects in terms of size and, in several cases, distance to the coast, the Danish Energy Agency has investigated whether the applications are covered by the rules for the open door scheme, which was originally targeted at smaller, coastal wind farms.

However, the board has come to the conclusion that the projects can be included under the open door scheme, and will therefore proceed with the processing of the applications, which, among other things, involves a hearing with the authorities, the board states in the announcement.

Only after the authority hearings will it be decided whether a feasibility study permit will be granted for one or more of the projects.

The six projects that are now being sent to the authorities for consultation are:

Area 1: Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Vikinge Banke, 1137 MW

Area 2: Copenhagen Energy, Odin, 1500-2250 MW

Area 3: Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Jyske Banke Nord, 1050 MW

Area 7: Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Bøcher Banke, 1100-1102.5 MW

Area 11: Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Bornholm Basin East, 1488 MW

Area 12: Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Bornholm Basin South, 1488 MW
