Cadeler has signed a new agreement with Ørsted for the transport and installation of offshore foundations for the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm off the east coast of the UK. The offshore installation is expected to begin in 2026.

During the installation of Hornsea 3, Cadeler will make use of its new F-class vessel for the first time, which will be the latest addition to the fleet at that time. The F-class vessel is purpose-built for the transport and installation of foundations.

Cadeler and Ørsted have been in dialogue about the task for a long time, and first announced the possible agreement on May 9 this year. Now they have finally reached an agreement. The agreement also includes a mutual commitment that the agreement can be further developed into a permanent T&I contract (transport and installation) for the full foundation task. This thus expands the business area under which Cadeler will operate in the future.

The agreement is naturally subject to Ørsted making a final investment decision on Hornsea 3.

Continuation of Hornsea cooperation

Cadeler has been actively involved in the construction of wind turbines in the Hornsea 2 project, which is expected to be fully completed later this year. The third phase of the large offshore wind farm in the Hornsea area is therefore a natural extension of the work that Cadeler has previously carried out, the shipping company writes in the press release.

- The decision to raise capital to build our F-class vessel was based on an increased demand to be able to deliver complex installation skills for the new generation of XL foundations. We have proven time and time again that we possess the necessary know-how and have the equipment needed to succeed in this specialized area that requires great expertise. It is therefore a fantastic opportunity for us to once again execute on a project in the North Sea, and this time to do so with a focus on foundation installations, while building on the good, close collaboration we already have with Ørsted, says Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler.

Hornsea 3 will cover an area of 696 square kilometers located in the North Sea, approximately 121 km off the Norfolk coast and 160 km off the Yorkshire coast. When the project is completed, the offshore wind turbines will be able to produce up to 2.852 GW of energy.

- With each project, we build on what we have learned, and we get better each time, while still placing a high emphasis on quality and safety. We look forward to working with Cadeler when offshore construction begins, says Patrick Harnett, Vice President Program UK at Ørsted.
