73 large wind turbines and several solar cell projects are currently being planned in Tønder Municipality. A further 52 turbines may be on the way, and a total of 23 specific projects are scheduled to be submitted to local, indicative referendums. The results will be used in the political prioritization, which should be ready for a final decision before the turn of the year. The municipality has completed three rounds of tenders, and it is the projects from the latest round that are up for a vote. Mayor Jørgen Popp Petersen acknowledges that the process can be complex, but emphasizes that the decision to hold referendums was made unanimously in the climate, growth and development committee. At the same time, he states that the process does not bind the new municipal council.
