The private customers in Eastern Denmark increased their electricity consumption considerably in October. The customers used 5.8 percent more electricity than in the same month last year, according to new figures from the network companies Cerius-Radius.

The electricity meters of the 1.5 million private customers and small businesses in Eastern Denmark spun faster in October than before. A new calculation shows that the customers' October consumption was 5.8 percent higher than in the same month last year.

According to Cäthe Bay-Smidt, head of Cerius-Radius, the development is not due to the weather. The temperature in October was about the same as in 2024, and the explanation must therefore be found elsewhere.

- The electrification of society is taking place these years, and this means that our basic consumption is growing. Electric cars are a very good example of this. Owners can be happy that petrol or diesel costs will disappear, but in return they will then have a slightly higher electricity bill. And when hundreds of thousands of people make this switch these years, it can be seen in the total consumption, she says.

A family in a typical detached house uses approximately 60 percent of the year's electricity consumption in the winter months, and if the household has a heat pump, 65-70 percent of the annual consumption is between October and March. Therefore, there can be a lot of money to save by thinking about your consumption in the coming months, the company says.

Cäthe Bay-Smidt emphasizes that it can be worthwhile to both reduce consumption and move parts of it to other times of the day, when electricity prices are typically lower. Most often, electricity prices are highest in the late afternoon and early evening.
